Dead to Me is an American black comedy streaming television set series created past Liz Feldman and executively produced by Feldman, Volition Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Jessica Elbaum. The series premiered on May 3, 2019, on Netflix and stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini every bit two grieving women who bond during therapy. Premise [edit]
Dead to Me is about a friendship that blossoms between Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini).[9] Jen is a recently widowed existent estate agent based in Laguna Beach, California, trying to come to terms with her loss through therapy, practice, and other methods. She uses acrimony and resentment every bit an outlet for her grief.[x] She meets Judy in a grief support group. Jen mourns her husband, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver, while Judy claims she is grieving for her fiancé who died of a eye assail. On Apr v, 2018, information technology was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of ten episodes. The series was created by Liz Feldman who was also expected to write for the series and executive produce alongside Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Jessica Elbaum. Production companies involved with the series were slated to consist of Gloria Sanchez Productions and CBS Boob tube Studios.[xiii] [xiv] [15] [16] [17] On Nov 2, 2018, information technology was reported that Amy York Rubin would direct the commencement and 2d episodes of the series.[eighteen]
On April 1, 2019, information technology was announced that the serial was gear up to be released on May 3, 2019.[xix] On June three, 2019, the serial was renewed for a second flavour, gear up to be released in 2020.[4] On April 10, 2020, Netflix announced that the second flavor would be released on May eight, 2020.[five] On July half-dozen, 2020, Netflix renewed the serial for a 3rd and final season.[7] Filming for the third and final season began on May seven, 2021.[20] However, production has been paused since mid-August due to Applegate's health.[21] On December 21, 2021, it was reported that there were positive COVID-19 cases on the set, simply filming was not impacted or shut down. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has an blessing rating of 89% based on fifty reviews, with an average rating of vi.48/ten. The website's critics consensus reads: "Expressionless to Me doesn't always deliver on the gallows sense of humor that it promises, just the sterling duo of Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini elevates the series above its pulpier aspects—offering a deeply moving relationship shaped by mutual grief."[29] On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 67 out of 100, based on 21 critics, indicating "mostly favorable reviews".[30]
On Rotten Tomatoes, the second season has an approval rating of 97% based on 29 reviews, with an average rating of 8.xiii/x. The website's critics consensus reads: "Dead to Me doubles downward on the twists and turns out an exciting second flavour that makes excellent use of its well-matched leads."[31] On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 72 out of 100, based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[32]
